BANYAN PARK

Public BBQ

Banyan Park sits quietly on Butler Street, serving as Tully's unofficial gateway for weary travellers. This compact parking area accommodates both cars and caravans, though overnight stays require permits from the information centre - a detail announced on signage so modest you'll need reading glasses and the persistence of a detective to locate it. The facilities are refreshingly practical: fresh water, a dump point, and toilets accessible via a short stroll across the bridge to the bus terminal. The concrete and grass parking spots fill quickly - all fifteen of them - so early arrival proves wise. While generators are prohibited (making Queensland's humidity rather more intimate than one might prefer), the trade-off is blessed quiet. The park's true charm lies in its proximity to Tully's modest treasures: the Big Gumboot, the heritage sugar mill, and shops that somehow manage to be both quaint and useful. Morning walks around the showground's perimeter offer splendid views of the mountain ranges, often shrouded in mists that remind you why this is Australia's wettest town.
